Winter sports
The Mountain Carousel is traditionally a big draw for skiers and snowboarders thanks to the excellent standard and range of its pistes, as well as its comfortable ski lifts, which mean that all the alpine sports on offer can be made not only as exhilarating, but also as comfortable and as safe as possible.
.
Ski lifts
Two gondola lifts supplied by French manufacturer Poma, famous the world over for the high standards of comfort and safety of its lifts, are already in operation at the resort: the first phase of the gondola lift (running from 540 metres to 960 metres above sea level), the second phase (running to a height of 1,450 metres above sea level) and two platter pulls at the lower station of the second phase on the learner slopes. The delivery of the third phase of the scheme (pistes and ski lifts up to a height of 2,200 metres) is planned for September of this year.
The pistes
The Mountain Carousel will consist of 28 lines of overhead ropeways consisting variously of cable cars, chair lifts and platter pulls and 75 kilometres of ski runs with lift stations at heights of 540, 960, 1,450 and 2,200 metres above sea level. The ski runs will be aimed at skiers with varying levels of proficieny, with green, blue, red and black ratings. What makes the Mountain Carousel unique is that is located at such a high altitude that the snow does not melt until the middle of the summer. The total length of the two ski runs currently in operation as of the 2009 season is 8 kilometres. The maximum capacity is 2,000 skiers at any one time. In addition to the slopes and the ski lifts, there is a car park, cafés at the lower and upper stations and an outlet for hiring ski equipment in operation, while ski and snowboard instructors are on hand to give lessons and there is also a tubing stadium.
