Krasnaya Polyana

Krasnaya Polyana is characterful resort village with a history going back many centuries, which attracts tourists in their thousands. Fairytale mountain landscapes, crystal clear water, air and springs of mineral water – all these are to be found at Krasnaya Polyana.

Krasnaya Polyana is the only area of ski resorts in Russia located on subtropical latitudes and in direct proximity of the Black Sea. What makes the climate of Krasnaya Polyana unique is the unusual combination of alpine and maritime climates, which makes it possible for tourists to try out a whole range of different kinds of outdoor activities in one place. The landscape of this area, covered with dense forests, criss-crossed by picturesque gorges and fast running mountain streams, provides the widest possible range of opportunities for enthusiasts of eco-tourism.

The valley of the river Mzymta close to Krasnaya Polyana forms a unique basin in the midst of the uplands, bounded by the main Caucasian Mountain Range and by the Achishkho spur, with peaks rising to over 3,000 meters, to the north and northeast, while to the south and southeast it is bordered by Aibga ridge, which runs parallel to the valley of the river Mzymta; to the southwest the basin is closed off by the river gorge. The fact that the valley is sheltered on all sides, the almost complete absence of wind and the considerable lack of humidity compared to surrounding areas all create a remarkably mild climate, close to that of the coastal zone. In terms of the temperature range, the climatic conditions of the Krasnaya Polyana district are comparable to those of alpine resorts in Central Europe. And yet Krasnaya Polyana is just 40 kilometres away from the Black Sea coast and Sochi International Airport. Regular flights linking Sochi with Moscow and major European and Asian cities make the Krasnaya Polyana region one of the best located in Russia in terms of logistics.
